Maria “Emma” Mendoza
On December 22, 2024, Emma Mendoza gained her angel wings and rejoined her heavenly family husband, Jose Mendoza and daughter, Olda Mendoza. She was 86 years old.

Emma was well loved in Ulysses where she lived for over 60 years. She was an active member of Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church for many years. She was very devout in her faith even though she had hardships in her life, her faith grew and never wavered. Emma was a custodian for Ulysses USD 214 for over 28 years. She was beloved by faculty and students.

Her hobbies included: sewing, knitting and crocheting but she was best known for being a great cook. Over the years she has made countless meals made from scratch for friends.

She is survived by: a son and two daughters- Eloy Mendoza (wife Linda) of Ulysses, KS, Rosa Mendoza of Parker, CO, and Mirta Rivas (husband Steve) of Plains, TX; two sisters and their families- Romelia Gonzalez and Eva Garcia; five grandchildren- Chief Petty Officer Rose Pauda, Jéan Pauda, E’Lynn Layne (husband Michael), Jacob Mendoza (wife Tori), and Dustin Quimby; and nine great-grandchildren- MaiLynn, Delayzah, and Zaydrian Garcia, Bentley Lane, Hayden, Jael, and Mathias Pauda, and Emily and Avery Mendoza.

Visitation will be Sunday, December 29, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. followed by the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. Funeral mass will be Monday, December 30, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses with Reverend Eric Gyamfi officiating. Interment will follow at Ulysses Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
