Margaret Grace Barnes

Margaret Grace Barnes, age 89, of Ulysses, Kansas died Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. She was born March 10, 1923 in Phoenix, Arizona, the daughter of James Pleasant and Mary Ella (Young) Ivy.
Margaret grew up in Chandler and Phoenix, Arizona. She graduated from Phoenix Union High School and then continued her education by obtaining her LPN Nursing Degree. She married Carroll V. “Bood” Barnes in Phoenix, Arizona on March 21, 1942. Margaret and Bood moved to Ulysses in 1947. She worked at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses for a number of years. Margaret was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since 1954 and was very active in her church.
She is survived by her four sons, Larry Barnes of Nampa, Idaho, Jerry Barnes of Highland, California, Doug Barnes of Jakarta, Indonesia, David Barnes of Woodward, Oklahoma; daughter, Sharon Wood of Lehi, Utah; brother, Gerald Ivy of Colorado; sisters, Lavern Besley of Oregon, Deloris Simons of Arizona, Lola May Senatro of Arizona; 30 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Bood, on October 22, 2002.
Funeral service will be held Monday, September 10, 2012 at 10:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Ulysses, Kansas. Interment will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday, September 9, 2012 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses and Monday, September 10, 2012 from 8:30 AM until 9:30 AM at the church. Memorial contributions may be given to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Mission Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
