Lynetta Jewel Willis

Lynetta Jewel Willis, 77, of Hugoton, passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal, Kansas.

The daughter of Warren Grover and Betty Lee (Hershey) Willis, she was born on February 27, 1946, in Garden City, Kansas.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Hugoton and a lifelong resident of Stevens County. Lynetta spent many years living north of Hugoton on the family farm. She attended school in Hugoton, Parsons, and then Liberal, Kansas. Many years ago, she was employed at the Hugoton Elementary School as a kitchen aid for 3 to 4 years.

Lynetta had a passion for all animals, but her favorite was cats. She had many pet cats and dogs throughout the years that she loved dearly; she also raised chickens, rabbits, and canary birds. Playing cards, dominoes, bingo, shopping, talking on the phone with family or friends, or in person visits were a few activities that really lit up her day. Lynetta enjoyed caring for her cactus plants, reading books, coloring, putting puzzles together, and doing word search puzzles. She had a hobby of collecting dolls, Elvis memorabilia, and pencil sharpeners. Christmas and her birthday were her favorite times of the year. Family and friends would describe Lynetta as an inspiration. She was always happy, kind, positive, and a true sweetheart despite any pain or condition she was in; sometimes, she was a little mischievous, as she enjoyed laughing and making others laugh. Reminiscing and sharing her childhood stories was another thing that Lynetta enjoyed, especially funny stories. Lynetta loved her family dearly. She loved her role as daughter, big sister, aunt, and great aunt.

She is survived by her mother, Betty Willis; brother, Mike Willis; nephew, Warren Willis (Amanda), all of Hugoton, KS; nieces, Jenny Donaldson (Jyrel) of Maple Hill, KS; Lisa Steers (TJ) of Hugoton, KS; great nephews and nieces, Zachary, Thomas and Katelynn Willis; Justin, Jacob, and Jenna Donaldson; Lillian and Vivian Steers, and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Warren G. Willis, and her sister-in-law, Kathy Willis.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Pioneer Manor for Lynetta’s care over the last several years.

A memorial has been established for the First Christian Church or Pioneer Manor, in care of Robson Funeral Home, PO Box 236, Hugoton, KS 67951.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, April 3, 2023, at 10 AM at First Christian Church, in Hugoton, with Pastor Heath Kelley presiding. Burial to follow at Hugoton Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Sunday, April 2, 2023, from 2 PM to 8 PM at Robson Funeral Home, 314 S Van Buren St, Hugoton. The family will receive family and friends from 4 P.M. to 6 P.M. at Robson Funeral Home.
