Lyle Morris Swanson

Lyle Morris Swanson, 83, died Wednesday, June 10, 2015, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal, KS

He was born January 9, 1932 on a farm near Walthill, NE to Martin and Ada (Gabriel) Swanson.

He had farmed for two years before starting to work for Northern Natural Gas as a measurement technician and later as a measurement specialist. He worked in Hobbs, NM; Saint Peter and Owatonna, MN; Lincoln, NE; transferring to Liberal, KS in 1971. Lyle retired in 1987.

He served as a Boy Scout leader for many years. He was active in his church for many years at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd and became a member of the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church.

After his retirement, he volunteered at the Good Samaritan Center doing woodcrafts and also served as a volunteer guardian, at Mosaic for individuals who are mentally/physically handicapped.

On January 3, 1954, he married Lena “Lea” Castor at Omaha, NE. She survives.

1 Daughter- Marie Tibbetts and husband Mike, Pratt, KS

1 Brother -Jim Swanson, Homer, NE

13 Grandchildren- Joy Magner, Martin Swanson, Lindsey Starkey, Christopher Swanson, Amber Engelman, Jeremy Holloway, Trevor Holloway, Dakota Holloway, Arika Swanson, Airi Swanson, Ayu Swanson, Alex Swanson and Josh Swanson.

10 Great-Grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his Parents, Daughter-in-law, Nola Swanson, 4 Brothers, Martin Swanson Jr, Ray Swanson, Milan Swanson, Russell Swanson, and 2 Sisters, Celestia O’Conner and Alice Hayes.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, June 13, 2015 at the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Liberal, KS with Rev. Andrew Wehling presiding. Burial will be in Liberal Cemetery.

Visitation time will be 9 am – 8 pm Friday with the family present to greet friends from 5 – 6 pm Friday at Brenneman Funeral Home.
