Luz E. Vasquez

Luz E. Vasquez, age 60, of Syracuse, died Thursday, February 17, 2022, surrounded by her loved ones at her sister’s home in Johnson, Kansas. She was born January 12, 1962, in Gomez Farias, Chihuahua, Mexico, the daughter of Carlos and Belia (Perez) Wissar-Gutierrez.

Luz grew up in Mexico and moved to the United States in 1980. She had lived in Coolidge, Johnson, and Tribune before settling down in Syracuse. She was a hospital Dietician, and a cashier and cook at the Eagle #7 Convenience Store. Luz enjoyed cooking, dancing, and took pride in her hair and makeup. She loved time spent with her family, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She is survived by one son, Octavio Vasquez, Jr. of Garden City; two daughters, Ebony Gutierrez and husband Daniel of Ft. Riley, and Julie Vasquez of Mexico; mother, Belia Wissar of Johnson; brothers, Carlos Wissar, Jr. and wife Adrianna of Ft. Morgan, Colorado, and Jorge Wissar and wife Sandra of Johnson; sisters, Carlota Colmenero and husband Manuel of Coolidge, Rose Ortiz of Denver, Colorado, Guillermina Leyva and husband Jesus of Johnson, Norma Maestas and husband Steve of Denver, Colorado, Velia Zamudio and husband Humberto of Johnson, and Laura Harmon and husband Chad of Johnson; six grandchildren, Emma Vasquez, Sergio Villa, Esmeralda Villa, Jesus Vasquez, Yosselin Vasquez, and Lizeth Vasquez; and one great-granddaughter, Sophia Oquendo; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Luz is preceded in death by her father, Carlos Wissar-Gutierrez; and brother-in-law, Paul Ortiz.

Rosary Service will be held at 7:00 PM on Monday, February 21, 2022, and Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, both at St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Johnson, Kansas, with Reverend Charles Seiwert officiating. Interment will follow at the Stanton County Cemetery. Friends may call from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM on Monday, February 21, 2022, at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson.
