Luther Garcia, age 87, died Sunday, August 8, 2021, at his home in Liberal, Kansas.

 

He was born on December 15, 1933, the son of Balomere Garcia and Adela Ramos in Coolidge, Kansas.

 

Luther served in the Marines from March 1952 – July 1955 and served in the Korean War. He worked as a grain elevator operator for the Coop in Ulysses, Kansas. Luther loved to play pool, and cards, especially rummy and was known to hand jive. His presence in our lives will be sorely missed.

Survived by:

One son, Anthony (Veronica) Garcia of Liberal, Kansas

Four daughters, Genevieve (Francisco) Rodriguez of Liberal, Kansas

Adela (Raul) Vargas of Arizona

Lucia (Michael) Applebee, and

Deborah Garcia both of Liberal, Kansas

One sister, Julia (Alvaro) Atayde of Ulysses, Kansas

63 grandchildren, 12 great grand children, 1 great great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.

 

Luther was preceded in death by both his parents, Balomere Garcia and Adela Ramos,

One brother, Archie Garcia,

Two sons, Abraham and Fernand Garcia,

Two grandsons, Anthony I. Garcia Jr. and Robert Garcia 

 

Visitation will be 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, Hornung Family Funeral Home 1212 W. 2nd Street Liberal, Kansas

 

Rosary will follow at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church 1510 N. Calhoun Liberal, Kansas

 

Funeral Mass will be at 2:00 PM on Thursday, August 12, 2021, St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church 1510 N. Calhoun Liberal, Kansas Rev. Matthew Kumi presiding.

 

Interment will follow at the Restlawn Cemetery.
