Lucinda Alcala, age 80, died Sunday, July 10, 2022, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses, Kansas. She was born July 30, 1941, in Winters, Texas, the daughter of Aureliano and Concepcion (Cerda) Esquivel.

Lucinda was born and raised in Texas. She married Isidro Alcala on July 7, 1956, in Munday, Texas. Together they relocated to Ulysses in 1972 where they raised their four children. Lucinda was a member of the Primera Iglesia Bautista. During her time in Ulysses, Lucinda worked at Duckwall’s Discount Store, Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital, Western Prairie Care Home, and USD 214.

Lucinda is survived by daughters, Dee and husband Izzy Longoria, Mary and husband Buddie Neatherlin, and Gloria and husband Mike Betschart; nine grandchildren, Eric, Jake and Bret Betschart, Jeremy Alcala and Jade Cisneros; Matthew and Brad Neatherlin; Michael and David Longoria; 17 great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Rudy, James and Robert Esquivel.

Lucinda is preceded in death by her parents, Aureliano and Concepcion Esquivel; husband, Isidro; son, Eddie; brother, Aureliano; and sisters, Linda Esquivel, Louisa Sepeda and Odelia Ybarra.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 at Primera Iglesia Bautista in Ulysses, Kansas, with Pastor Gustavo Perez officiating. Interment will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 12, 2022, from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. Memorial contributions may be given to the Primera Iglesia Bautista or Elijah Longoria Medical Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave., Ulysses, KS. 67880.
