Louis James Gokey

Louis James Gokey, age 83, passed away Thursday morning, May 23, 2019, at the Lone Tree Retirement Center, Meade, Kansas.
He was born March 16, 1936, at Pawnee, Oklahoma, the son of Adam and Ethel (Brock) Gokey. As a young boy he attended school in Tecumseh, Oklahoma. After his schooling, he joined the United States Army, serving for several years. After his discharge, he moved to Liberal, Kansas, making his home for over fifty years and working as an auto mechanic for Otasco.
He enjoyed collecting coins and spending time with his family and friends.
On July 21, 1956, he married Mildred Covel at Shawnee, Oklahoma. She precedes him in death in March, 2009.
He is survived by three sons, Ray Gokey and wife Nikki of Meade, Rick Gokey and wife Karin, and Ron Gokey both of Liberal; a daughter, Pam Lee of Turpin, Oklahoma; two brothers, Leo Gokey of Tecumseh, Oklahoma, and Frank Gokey of Sandy, Oregon; two sisters, Helen Littleton of Tecumseh, Oklahoma, and Louise White of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Mildred; parents; three brothers, Adam, Cyrus, and Johnnie Gokey; and a sister, Emma Berhard.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade. Friends may call from 8:30 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Restlawn Cemetery, rural Liberal, Kansas.
The family would welcome memorials to the Lone Tree Retirement Center in care of the funeral home.
