Louis Arnold Juel, age 87, of Johnson, KS died Saturday, June 23, 2012 at the Stanton County Long Term Care Unit, Johnson, KS. He was born November 26, 1924 at Valentine, Nebraska the son of Lester and Lillian (Saurewein) Juel.
Loius grew up in Mission South Dakota and moved with his parents to Missouri. As a young man he traveled to Eastern Colorado to work in the harvest fields and met Maggie Wilson and they were married on January 24, 1950 in Berryville, Arkansas. In 1956 he moved to Sublette, Kansas and began farming with Diaden Farms operating one of the first irrigation wells in southwest, Kansas, he retired as a manager after 34 years. Louis and Maggie moved to Johnson in 1990 where he enjoyed working in the yard and reading.
Survivors include his wife Maggie of Johnson, Kansas; three sons Gale Juel and wife Kimberly of Conway Springs, Kansas, Anthony Juel and wife Connie of Satanta, Kansas and Michael Juel of Manter, Kansas. One Daughter Christa Barber and husband Wayne of Follett, Texas and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Louis is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Leonard, Richard and Andrew; one son Boyd Juel, son-in-law Bud Lake and daughter-in-law Brenda Juel. One grandson Todd Barber, one granddaughter Jamie Anderson.
Graveside service will be Tuesday, June 26, 2012, 10:00 a.m. at the Stanton County Cemetery, Johnson, Kansas with Reverend Dave Kaufmann officiating. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 25, 2012 at Garnand Funeral Home, Johnson, Kansas. The family suggests memorials be given to the Diabetic Association in care of Garnand Funeral Home, PO box 715, Johnson, Kansas 67855.
