Lorena Evelyn Pifer, 89, died Friday, December 20, 2013 at her home in Liberal, KS.

She was born February 27, 1924 at Morton County, KS, the daughter of Jesse and Maude (Milburn) Simmons.

She married Franklin H. Pifer on September 26, 1948 at Lamar, Co. He preceded her in death on December 5, 2004.

Lorena attended Hugoton, KS High School, graduating as Salutatorian, Class of 1942. She was a secretary at the Liberal Air Base following graduation and then she was an office manager for the Blue Bonnet Apartments. She and her husband bought Alene’s Cafe in 1959 later opening The Place To Eat retiring in 1987. Lorena enjoyed sewing, playing piano, reading and her grandchildren.

Her survivors include her Son – John Franklin Pifer of Liberal, KS and Daughter – Marie Wyer and husband Jackie of Liberal, KS; 1 Sister – Rachel Reece of Lamar, CO; 1 Brother – Ross Simmons of Hugoton, KS. 3 Granddaughters and 10 Great Grandkids.

She was also preceded in death 1 Brother, 2 Sisters, 1 Great Grandson.

Visitation will be 1:00 pm – 8:00 pm Sunday, December 22nd at Miller Mortuary.

Funeral Ceremony will be at 11:00 am Monday, December 23rd at Miller Mortuary with Pastor Rex Petty Officiating. Burial will follow at the Liberal City Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials to the American Heart Association or the Arthritis Foundation of America in care of Miller Mortuary.
