Lois Vernice McManaman, age 90, of Ulysses, Kansas died Friday, January 21, 2011 at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses, Kansas. She was born November 4, 1920 in Copeland, Kansas, the daughter of Courtney and Grace Alice (Malone) Simpson. Lois moved to Ulysses as a child and graduated from Grant County Rural High School. She married Earl D. “Pete” McManaman on June 10, 1944 in Ulysses, Kansas. She worked at the treasurer’s office at the courthouse, was a cook at the school and retired from the Sullivan School as their secretary. Lois was active with her kids, grandkids and great grandkids. She collected the state quarters for all her grandkids and other family members. Lois enjoyed camping and was a member of the Shelton Memorial Christian Church. Survivors include her husband, Earl “Pete” of the home; two daughters, Lucy Jane Vanderpool, Linda Kay Wise and husband Larry Joe all of Ulysses, Kansas; six grandchildren, Lucy Ray Altis, Lora Foresman, R.E. Vanderpool Jr., Amanda Wise, Crystal Wise, and Tim Wise; and eight great grandchildren, Oren Earl and Kimberly Altis, Kylie, Kaden and Koby Vanderpool, Kellen Carson, Alex and Wesley Wise. Lois is preceded in death by her parents, Terry Simpson, a nephew, raised by Lois and Earl; brothers, Wayne, Gene, Cecil Sr. “Bill”, and Ed; sisters, Corine Gee and her twin sister Lorraine, Ruby Roberts, Dorothy Hickman, Millie Jane McManaman, and Evelyn Simpson. Visitation: 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m., Monday, January 24, 2011 at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses, Kansas Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 25, 2011 at the Shelton Memorial Christian Church in Ulysses with Reverend Bill Harrold officiating.
