Linette Long

Linette Long, age 76, of Syracuse, Kansas, died Thursday, September 1, 2016, at the Hamilton County Hospital in Syracuse, Kansas. She was born September 14, 1939, in Denver, Colorado, the daughter of Wesley L. and D. Maxine (Shaffer) Holland.

After high school, Linette continued her education and obtained a Bachelor Degree of Religious Education. She married Harry E. Long on September 23, 1956, in Denver Colorado at the East High Baptist Church. Linette taught school in Lamar and Ordway, Colorado, the Christian Academy in Syracuse, and taught ESL at the Syracuse Community Learning Center. She also drove the school bus in Syracuse. Linette was an accomplished seamstress, sewing many clothes including wedding dresses. She also enjoyed making crafts, art, writing poetry, and playing the piano. Linette was a Republican Committee Woman for Hamilton County, a Sunday school teacher, former member of the Southern Baptist Church in Syracuse and a member of the Pitkin Avenue Baptist Church in Fowler, Colorado.

She is survived by her son; David Long and wife Ruth of Pueblo West, Colorado; daughter, Cathy Nairn and husband Troy of Syracuse, Kansas; brothers, Wesley Holland and wife Maria of Lemoyne, Nebraska, Larry Holland and wife Diana of Denver, Colorado; sisters, Loretta Corbin of La Junta, Colorado, Martha Defluiter and husband Gary of Denver, Colorado; eight grandchildren, Leigha, Ross, Cassandra, Kyler, Liberty, Anella, Anigha, and Angeline; and two great-grandchildren, Stetson and Eden.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harry; and infant sister, Veda June Holland.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at 2:00 PM (MST) at the Southern Baptist Church in Syracuse, Kansas with Pastor Don C. Stephens officiating. Burial will follow at the Syracuse Cemetery in Syracuse, Kansas. Memorials may be given to Baptist Bible Fellowship in care of Garnand Funeral Home, PO Box 715, Johnson, Kansas 67855.
