Leta Joy Baldwin Lawhead Wartman, age 82, of Johnson, Kansas, died January 17, 2020, at Stanton County Long Term Care Unit in Johnson, Kansas. She was born June 8, 1937, in Syracuse, Kansas, the daughter of Orville and Fannie (Palmer) Baldwin.

Leta grew up in Syracuse, Kansas, and in her youth worked at the grocery store and bank in Syracuse. She also worked with her mother in Baldwin’s Flower Shop for years before moving to Johnson, Kansas. In 1955, she graduated from Syracuse High School. Leta was a Homemaker and also helped with the family business; C & L Hay. She was an active member of Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church in Johnson, Kansas. Leta was an avid reader and enjoyed playing word search. Leta loved to travel and had been to all 50 states. Most of all, Leta loved her family.

Leta married Charles Lawhead on April 7, 1957. He preceded her in death in 2000. She later married Cortland Wartman, Jr. on January 18, 2003. He survives.

Other survivors include two daughters; Denise Haggard and husband Randy of Shell Knob, Missouri and Mary Davison of Johnson, Kansas, and her Wartman family; two sons; Brad Wartman of Salem, Oregon; and Steve Wartman and wife Tracy of Salida, Colorado; one daughter; Shari Wiens and husband Roger of Johnson, Kansas, two sisters; Marion Potter of Syracuse, Kansas, and Debbie Urie of Syracuse, Kansas, and a special niece; Dona Tedder of Syracuse, Kansas, four grandchildren; Rochelle and Jared Cooper, Anyssa and Logan Shore, Shelby and Sterling Dunivan and Levi Huse and three great-grandchildren; Jaklynn Cooper, Genivere Cooper and Declan Dunivan.

She is preceded in death by her parents, first husband; Charlie Lawhead and one brother; Wesley Eugene Baldwin.

Funeral Service will be Wednesday, January 22, 2020, at 2:00 p.m. at Fields Memorial Wesleyan Church in Johnson, Kansas, with Reverend Kurt Rovenstine officiating. Burial will follow at the Syracuse Cemetery in Syracuse, Kansas. Friends may call at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson, Kansas, on Tuesday, January 21, 2020, from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Family requests memorial contributions be given to the Stanton County Library in care of Garnand Funeral Home, PO Box 715 , Johnson, Kansas 67855.
