Leonard H. Turner, age 91, of Elkhart, Kansas died July 12, 2011 at Morton County Care Center in Elkhart, Kansas. He was born February 23, 1920 in Cimarron County, Oklahoma the son of Don and Ethel (Eversoll) Turner.
Leonard grew up in Elkhart, Kansas. Leonard was a farmer and rancher all his life. He designed and made spurs for many friends. He also was a wood working artist. He enjoyed traveling in his younger days, and would get ideas for his woodworking project. He was a man that loved the outdoors, horses, cattle, all animals and life. Leonard will also be remembered for his sense of humor and orneriness. Leonard was a member of the Christian Congregation of Jehovah Witnesses. He married Nettie Gurule on June 16, 2007 in Clayton, New Mexico.
Survivors include his wife, Nettie of Clayton, New Mexico; one step-son, Jerry Gonzales of Santa Fe, New Mexico; seven step-daughters, Roseanne Garcia of Alamogordo, New Mexico, Jeannie Montoya of Clayton, New Mexico, Corrine Gonzales of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, Rebecca Baca of Clayton, New Mexico, Dianna Young of Amarillo, Texas, Sue Latimer of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Ruby Gonzales of Clayton, New Mexico; numerous grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; four nieces, Cherry Painter, Sandy Darnell, Linda Mayfield, Dana Kurtz; and two nephews, Don Turner and Boyd Turner.
Leonard is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Richard Turner, Morris Turner; and one sister, Lennis Turner.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 16, 2011 at 1:00 PM at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witness Church in Clayton, New Mexico with Steven Hodges officiating.
