Leola Maxine Marrs Butler Brown, 96, of Nickerson, Kansas went to be with Lord on 12/16/2020. Leola was born to Walter Warren Marrs and Feryl Ione Flinn, on 08/22/1924 in rural Meade County Kansas.
Leola graduated from Fowler High School in 1942. She studied Home Economics at Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, OK.
During WWII Leola moved to Los Angeles, California and worked at Century Metalcraft Corp sorting aircraft parts to support the cause.
Leola’s passion in life was being a mother, grandmother and homemaker, over the years, she held many different occupations including being a Florist at Dickey’s Greenhouse and secretary for the Clark County Noxious Week Department from 1980-1996.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Ashland, and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
Leola enjoyed sewing, reading, traveling, working word puzzles, raising vegetables, working in her flower gardens, and spending time with her grandkids.
Leola met George Henry Butler and was married on February 17, 1946 at the United Methodist Church in Meade, Kansas, Upon their marriage, the couple made their home in Meade, KS, until 1953, moving to Ashland, Kansas to raise their family. Together they raised 7 children: Feryl, Sue, Dianna, George Warren (G.W.), Marvina, David and Walter.
After the passing of George Henry Butler, she married Victor Brown in 1980.
Leola is survived by 3 daughters and 2 sons: Sue (John) Tucker of Burr Oak, KS, Dianna (Phillip) Sneed of Nickerson, KS, Marvina (Terry) Schimmels of Kingfisher, OK, David (Tracy) Butler of Pampa TX, and Walter Butler of Emporia, KS. She is survived by 19 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers Alfred and Virgil Marrs, and sisters Warrenetta Fisher and Betty Leis.
Leola was preceded in death by both of her parents, 3 sisters, one brother, and by her late husbands, George Henry Butler and Victor Brown, one daughter Feryl Boyd, one son George Warren (G.W.) and great-granddaughter Ashlie Hawley.
The family has entrusted Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary of Meade, KS with the arrangements, A family only service will be held Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at 2:00 at the First Baptist Church, Meade, KS. With final resting place at Graceland Cemetery, Meade, KS. Leola’s Nephew, Randy Fisher, will officiate the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans Foreign Wars of Ashland, KS or Serenity Hospice Care of Hutchinson, KS; in care of Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary of Meade, KS.
