Leo Von Plett , 80, died Thursday, December 11, 2014 at Wheatridge Park Care Center in Liberal, KS
He was born August 27, 1934 at Beaver, OK, the son of George and Linda (Boese) Plett.
He married Puri Gonzalez October 12, 1976 at Turpin, OK. She survives
Leo grew up in the Turpin area going to grade school at Greenough, Oklahoma and was a class of 1952 graduate of Turpin High School.
After graduating from high school Leo continued working on his parent’s farm and also went to work at Hood Chevrolet in the body shop. He later went on to work for Rock Island Railroad, Navajo Freight and Graves Freight. In 1969 he joined Yellow Freight as a driver, working for them until retiring in 1997 after 34 years of service. Leo enjoyed his trips to Spain where he loved the culture and sites. Leo obtained his Pilot’s License in 1964 and loved to fly! He was a member of the Teamsters Union 886 and a lifetime member of the Turpin Mennonite Church.
He is also survived by two sons: Loren Plett and wife Kitty of Turpin, OK; Daniel Plett and wife Charlene of Liberal, KS; two daughters: Gaylene Patterson and husband Don of Arvada, CO; Ann Marie Pierce of Turpin, OK; five grandchildren & two great grandchildren.
Leo was proceeded in death by his father and brother: Vernon Plett
Visitation will be 1:00 pm – 6:00 pm Sunday December 14, 2014 at Miller Mortuary with the family present to receive friends from 3:00 pm – 5:30 pm.
Funeral Services will be at 10:00 am Monday December 15, 2014 at the Turpin Mennonite Church with Pastor Terry Rediger Officiating. Burial will follow at the Turpin Mennonite Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials to Turpin Mennonite Church in care of Miller Mortuary.
