Lena S. Doerksen, age 88, passed away Sunday afternoon, December 4, 2016, at the Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, Kansas.
 
She was born May 30, 1928, in rural Meade County, Kansas, the daughter of John H. and Sara J. (Reimer) Doerksen.  As a young girl she attended the Lake View Elementary School in rural Meade County.  She later received her nurses training at Dodge City Community College in the late 1950’s.  After her school she began her career as a surgical nurse working for Western Kansas Medical Center, Dodge City, for thirty-five years before retiring.
 
She was a member of the Emmanuel Mennonite Church, Meade, and had attended the Mennonite church in Dodge City for several years.  She enjoyed traveling, handwork, quilting, embroidery, and spending time with her family and friends.
 
She is survived by:
A brother,                                                Pete Doerksen of rural Fowler, Kansas
 
Three sisters,                                                Sara Peters of Reedley, California
                                                            Anna Friesen of Newton, Kansas
                                                            Alma Friesen of Edmond, Oklahoma
 
Several nieces and nephews.
 
She is preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Elizabeth Klassen.
 
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 9, 2016, at the Emmanuel Mennonite Church, Meade.  Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.  Interment will follow the service in the Emmanuel Mennonite Church Cemetery, rural Meade.
 
In lieu of flowers the family would welcome memorials to the charity of the donor’s choice in care of the funeral home.
