Leah Jean (Cheek) Jones

Leah Jean (Cheek) Jones, age 77, of Kingman, Kansas and formerly of Ulysses died Monday, August 27, 2012 at her home in Kingman, Kansas. She was born February 8, 1935 in Hollis, Oklahoma, the daughter of Troy and Lucille (Culbreath) Cheek.

Leah moved to Ulysses in 1946 from Pampa, Texas and graduated from Grant County Rural High School in 1953. She managed Cheek Apartments, and for years worked at Peoples Natural Gas in Ulysses. She married Kenneth LeRoy (Roy) Jones in 1976. Leah has lived in Kingman, Kansas for 26 years. She enjoyed cooking and gardening; and was a past member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority.

She is survived by one daughter, Lana Anderson and husband Terry of Ulysses, Kansas; one son, Bruce Limper of Denver, North Carolina; one step-son, Gary Jones and wife Kim of Wellington, Colorado; two step-daughters, Joni Hernandez and husband Leonard of Elkhart, Kansas, Mona Jackson and husband Steve of Gulf Breeze, Florida; brother, Gary Cheek and wife Linda of Wamego, Kansas; sister, Margo Kohl and husband LaVern of Springfield, Missouri; four grandchildren and six step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and nine step-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Troy and Lucille Cheek; and husband, Roy Jones on July 12, 2012.

Funeral service will be held Friday, August 31, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Shelton Memorial Christian Church in Ulysses, Kansas with Reverend Bill Harrold officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date at the Ulysses Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday, August 30, 2012 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. Memorial contributions may be given to the Hospice of Kansas in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
