Larry Gene Slater

Larry Gene Slater, age 69, passed away Monday, October 10, 2022, at his residence in Turpin, Oklahoma, after a courageous battle with ALS.

He was born on July 24, 1953, in Beaver, Oklahoma the son of Robert “Roy” and Barbara (Kendrick) Slater. Larry was one of five children, brother Harold “Leroy”, sisters, Sherrilyn Smith, Maxine Brack, and Cynthia “Cindy” Sheldon (David).

Larry graduated from Liberal High School in 1971. At 15 he started his first job for Gary VanBuskirk, at Champlain Stations. At 18 he went to work for the City of Liberal Park Department and Street Department. He also worked for Tradewind Industries and Tradewind Computer Systems, and finally in sales for Stu Emmert Automotive.

Larry was united in marriage to his loving wife, Tanya Houseman on September 29, 1978. They were blessed with two children, Tia Slater and Jordan Slater. They were later blessed with five grandchildren, Jaret, Addisyn, Karsyn, Kamryn, and Jett. He was a member of the Grant Street Church of Christ. Larry loved the Lord and he loved his Christian family. His favorite scripture is from 2 Corinthians 3:18 “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.” He believes this to be one of the greatest promises in the Bible. He lived by the motto “NEVER Lose HOPE.” He will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Tanya Slater of Turpin, Oklahoma,
Son, Jordan Slater of Moody, Alabama,
Daughter, Tia Slater of Turpin, Oklahoma,
Sisters, Maxine Brack of Ellis, Kansas, and
Cindy Sheldon of Liberal, Kansas,
Five grandchildren, Jaret, Addisyn, Karsyn, Kamryn, and Jett

He is preceded in death by
Both his parents, Robert “Roy” and Barbara (Kendrick) Slater,
Brother, Leroy, and
Sister, Sherrilyn.

Per Larry’s desire there will be no visitation no services.
