Kenneth J. “Ken” Thompson, 75, of Liberal, passed away on Saturday December 9, 2023 at his home.
He was born on September 7, 1948 to James and Louise (Parcel) Thompson in Ashland, KS.
On August 30, 1969 he married Julia Lewis at the Presbyterian Church in Liberal, KS.
Ken grew up on the family farm and was a graduate of Coldwater High School in Coldwater, KS: class of 1966. He then went on to graduate from Hutchinson Community College in 1968 and Kansas State University in 1972. Ken worked at S.A. Long and Jarmer Brothers Appliances, but spent most of his career as a Senior Business Analyst for Anadarko Petroleum. He retired from Anadarko on July 1, 2006 after 28 years. He was a life-long member of the Pancake Day Board, serving as the Hall of Fame representative and as Board Chairman for two years. He also served on the Liberal Memorial Library Foundation. Ken was a member of the Seward County Council on Aging (Liberal Senior Center) Board and the Kiwanis Club, where he has served as past president, treasurer, and District Lt. Governor. He was also a member of the Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon, Elder, and Clerk of Session. Ken enjoyed reading, golfing, and morning coffee with the Senior Center Coffee Group but most of all he loved being with his family.
Ken is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Julia Thompson, Three Daughters, Amy Thompson of Liberal, KS, Sarah Thompson of Liberal, KS, and Angela Johnston of Dallas, TX; Grandson, Adam Johnston of Dallas, TX; Granddaughter, Olivia Johnston of Dallas, TX; Brother, Wayne (Susie) Thompson of Coldwater, KS; Nieces Kara Lewis of Liberal, KS, Ashley (Rusty) Frazier of Coldwater, KS, and Melissa Thompson of Tuscan, AZ; Nephews Tyler (Rachel) Thompson of Oklahoma City, OK, and Steve (Arisa) Lewis of Erie, CO.
He was preceded in death by his Parents, Sister, Sue Weimaster, Brother-In-Law, Allen Wiemaster.
There will be no viewing as Cremation has taken place.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday January 13, 2024 at the First Presbyterian Church in Liberal.
