Katherine Borger

Katherine Borger, 94, departed this life on September 25, 2020, (her husband John’s birthday) at the Lone Tree Retirement Center.

She was born September 8, 1926, in rural Meade County, Kansas, to Godfrey and Hannah Borchers Blehm at a farm home north of the Henry and Mary Brunjes Borchers homestead.

On October 24, 1926, with John and Mary Borger Borchers as sponsors, Katherine was baptized into the Lutheran faith by Pastor Weber in the former Presbyterian Church of Meade and confirmed June 20, 1940, by Pastor Bruns in the St. John Lutheran Church and has remained a member of this church her entire life.

During her years of serving the Lord, she has held various offices of the local Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and helped with quilt making and keeping scrapbooks of the local church activities. In 1996, she was given the honor of having taught Sunday School 50 plus years by the Kansas District of the Lutheran Church. She was also a charter member of the Meade County Genealogical Society. She has remained active in recent years by volunteering at the Beam Senior Center and has been involved in researching family genealogy. Many people in the Meade community knew Katherine for her baking and decorating talents as she baked and decorated cakes for every celebration.

After attending grade school and high school in Meade and graduating with the class of 1944,

Katherine attended Fort Hays State College and received a teaching degree. She taught at the rural

school of Happy Hill for 4 years.

On May 22, 1948, she was united in marriage to John A. Borger and they celebrated 61 years of marriage. This union was blessed with 2 children, Cindy Ross, Russell, and Loren Borger (Sandy), Meade, Kansas.

Preceding her in death are her husband, John, her parents G.F. and Hannah Blehm, brothers Paul Blehm and Richard Blehm, sisters, Eva Elizabeth Blehm (an infant), Myra Kurth, Wilma Holmes, Elsie Porter Schaben, and her son-in-law Jerry Ross.

Katherine is survived by her 2 children, 7 grandchildren–Jennifer McNett and husband Douglas of Larned, Kansas, Jeralyn Jefferson and husband Ellis of Russell, Kansas, Jon Ross of Russell, Kyle Borger and Priscilla of Wichita, Kansas, AJ Brauer of Meade, Kansas, Aubrey Stover and her husband Ethan of Colby, Kansas, Chelsey Smith and her husband Mack of Hays, Kansas, 9 great-grandchildren–

Ross, Reed, Ella and Emma McNett of Larned, Kansas, Jasmine and Ellise Jefferson of Russell,Kansas,Brygette, Jaxon and Karrsyn Ross of Russell, Kansas, Kendrick and Wrynlee Stover of Colby, Kansas, and Oliver, Cainen, Katheryn and Gracelyn Smith of Hays, Kansas, her friend and sister-in-law Dorothy Blehm, numerous nieces and nephews as well as many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 1, 2020, at St. John Lutheran Church, Meade. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday with the family present from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.
