Karl Hendrickson

Karl Hendrickson, age 96, of Elkhart, Kansas died December 7, 2015, at Morton County Care Center in Elkhart, Kansas. He was born July 18, 1919, in Bristol, Colorado the son of Victor and Nelle Eunice (Duncan) Hendrickson.

Karl, a retired truck driver for Morton County Road Department, grew up and attended school in Bristol, graduating from Granada High School in Granada, Colorado. His junior and senior years, he was a FFA member. Karl proudly served in the United States Army. He served in New Guinea and Philippines from March 1941 to August 1945. Karl married Betsy Smith in 1949 in Raton, New Mexico. They later divorced. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Bristol, First Church of God in Elkhart, Point Rock VFW Post # 3162, Civilian Conservation Corp for 6 months after graduation, and was active in bowling in Elkhart. Karl lived in Bristol until moving to Elkhart in 1957. He married Barbara Jean McCullough on March 28, 1987 in Elkhart, Kansas. Karl was a carpenter, did building projects, worked at lumberyards and grain elevators, and was a night watchman at a gas plant.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara; daughter, Karla Wadlington and husband Jerry of Elkhart, Kansas; sister-in-law, Helen Hendrickson of Colorado Springs, Colorado; four grandchildren, Brenda Herron and husband Chad of Elkhart, Kansas, Dena Collins of Elkhart, Kansas, Alyssa Wadlington of Elkhart, Kansas, and Barbara Mendoza and husband Blas of Elkhart, Kansas; eleven great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Karl is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Donovan, Paul, Eugene, and Cecil; and sisters, Helen, Kathryn, and Margaret.

Memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at the Church of God in Elkhart, Kansas with Pastor Jim Cunningham officiating. Inurnment will follow at Elkhart Cemetery in Elkhart with military graveside rites conducted by Point Rock VFW Post #3162. Memorial contributions may be given to the Morton County Senior Living in care of Garnand Funeral Home, PO Box 854, Elkhart, KS 67950.
