Karen May Winfrey passed away October 25th at Baptist St. Anthony Hospital in Amarillo Tx.
She was 79 years old. Karen was born in Middlesex England on December 23, 1944. She came to the United States in 1948 on the Queen Mary to New York City. During the long voyage she was Baptized by the Caption of the ship. Karen grew up in Dodge City Kansas, where she graduated from Dodge City High School in 1962.
Karen met the love of her life in 1974 and was married in 1975, then moved to Plains where they were inseparable for 49 years. Karen was the office manager at National Carries in Liberal Kansas for 38 years.
Karen loved to bowl and play golf in her spare time and had a passion for animals and they seem to have the passion for her! Her sense of humor was off the charts. James always loved Karen’s red hair.
Survivors include her husband James Winfrey of Plains; two daughters Melissa Archilla, husband Raf Billings, Mt. Sevena Koehn, husband Kenny Dodge City, Ks; two grandchildren, Isabel Gill and George Billings, Mt. Mark Archilla and Devin Boseman, Mt. ; two great-grandchildren, Witney Gill and Eloise Gill. Brother Bob Jones and Anne Lusche, Phoenix Az.; and a nephew, Jeff Jones Az.
There will be no public viewing, as cremation has taken place. Celebration of Life services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday morning, November 2, 2023, at the Plains United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the Plains Cemetery.
The family would welcome memorials to the Humane Society in care of Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade, Kansas.
