Julio Labra

Julio Labra, age 73, passed away early Monday morning, March 15, 2021, at the Meade District Hospital, Meade, Kansas.

He was born April 12, 1947, at Zimapan, Hgo, Mexico, the son of Auerelio and Tranqi (Ponce) Labra.  As a young boy he attended school in Mexico.  In 1972, he moved to Plains, Kansas.  He was a farm hand for many years and later became the custodian for the Plains Grade School.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.  He enjoyed traveling to Mexico and spending time with his family and friends.

On November 5, 1973, he married Maria Irene Chavez at Meade, Kansas.  She survives.

Other survivors include his children, Cristobal Labra of Wichita, Kansas, Eloisa Baumgartner (Roger) of Iowa, Daisy Labra of Houston, Texas, and Elisa Puentes (Jose Enrique) of Plains, Kansas; three brothers, Demetrio Labra of Scott City, Kansas, Fernando Labra and Esteban Labra both of Idaho; two sisters, Antonia Labra and Teresa Labra of both Mexico; and four grandchildren, Jasmin Hernandez, Alexis Baumgartner, Carson Labra, and Jordan Labra.

He is preceded in death by a daughter, Carolina Labra; his parents; a brother, Bruno Labra; and a sister, Socorro Rivero.

Vigil services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, 2021, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Plains.  Holy Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 18, 2021, at the church.
