Judy Caldwell, age 68, of Ulysses, Kansas died Thursday, February 11, 2016, in Abilene, Kansas. She was born April 2, 1947, in Garden City, Kansas, the daughter of Floyd and Marjorie (Vogue) Mangels and raised by Bud and Thelma (Mangels) Helwig.
Judy grew up in Ulysses and graduated from Grant County Rural High School. She married Jerry Caldwell on April 16, 2012 in Ulysses, Kansas. Judy was a bookkeeper for many years. She had previously lived in Woodland Park, Colorado. She attended Oasis Church and was active in the United Sisterhood. Judy was on the All-Class Reunion Board and was active at the Historic Adobe Museum. She enjoyed riding Harley Davidson Motorcycles and had taken many trips. In recent years, she enjoyed spending time in Colorado, visiting family in Maine and Washington, and attending dozens of her grandchildren’s wrestling tournaments and other sporting events.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry of their home; daughter, Monica Mathews of Milbridge, Maine; step-children, Marcus Sams, Keecia Caldwell-Taylor and Cody Caldwell; former step-children, Kelly Murphy, Mark Murphy and Pat Murphy; brothers, Darrel Mangels and wife Pat of Ulysses, Kansas, Carl Mangels of Oklahoma, Eddie Mangels of Ulysses, Kansas, and Lloyd Mangels of Tennessee; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Judy is preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Sophia Hofer; brother, David Mangels; and sister, Vikki Mayers.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at Oasis Church in Ulysses, Kansas with Pastor Kris Humphrey officiating. Friends may call from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.
