Joyce Marie Plank

Joyce Marie Plank, age 76, of Platte City, Missouri, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 28, 2014. Joyce was born June 29, 1938, in rural Steven’s County Kansas to Carl and Muriel Ellis.

She attended high school at Friends Haviland Academy in Haviland, Kansas. She was a life time member of the Bethel Friends Church in Hugoton, Kansas. Joyce spent her lifetime in southwest Kansas and was employed at Kramer, Nordling, Nordling and Tate Law Firm; USD 210 Superintendent Office; and the Steven’s County Hospital. After retiring to Platte City, Missouri in November of 2002, she volunteered eight years at the St. Luke’s Northland Hospital.

Joyce will be remembered for her love of children, playing the piano/organ at home and at church, collecting dolls, her selflessness and her love of family.

She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, John Plank; her brother, Gene Ellis and wife Patricia of Lenexa, Kansas; her daughter, Michelle and husband Scott Nordyke of Kansas City, Missouri; her daughter Melinda and husband Bobbie Campbell of Johns Creek, Georgia; grandchildren, Nicole Nordyke O’Hern and husband Sean, Ceara Nordyke, Dylan Campbell and Erin Campbell; two great-granddaughters, Roslyn and Charlotte O’Hern and many nieces and nephews.

Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Muriel Ellis.

Funeral service will be held at the Bethel Friends Church, 1040 S. Jefferson, Hugoton, Kansas, at 1:00 pm, Monday, January 5, 2015. Friends may call Sunday, January 4, 2015 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Hugoton. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Barclay College or Bethel Friends Church and sent to Garnand Funeral Home, 423 S. Main, Hugoton, Kansas 67951.
