Joyce Berry

Joyce Berry, 88, of Liberal, passed away on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal, Kansas.

She was born on May 4, 1932 to Alvin and Dica (Lynch) Whorton at Larned, Kansas.

On January 20, 1949 she married Gail Berry at Dodge City, Kansas; he preceded her in death.

Joyce grew up in Larned, Kansas and was a graduate of Larned High School. After she and Gail were married they lived in Larned, Kansas then in Great Bend, Kansas. In January 1957 they moved to Liberal, Kansas. Joyce had worked at Montgomery Wards and a handful of other places until going to work with People’s National Bank in 1969 as an assistant cashier and was assistant vice president from 1978 until 1992. Joyce continued with People’s National Bank through it’s acquisitions; she eventually went to work with the Community Bank upon it’s creation in 1998 where she serviced as vice president; retiring in 2001. During her period with the banks she was fondly remembered for the work she did putting together and overseeing the bank trips. Joyce enjoyed camping, fishing, playing bridge, golfing, gardening, but most of all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joyce was also known to be “stubborn but very lovable”. She was a former member of Pancake Camper’s Club. She was a member St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and the First United Methodist Church of Liberal.

Joyce is survived by her Son, Gary Berry and wife Pam of Liberal, KS; two grandchildren, Bradly Berry and wife Vanessa of Edmond, OK, Stacey Deal and husband Brian of Piedmont, OK; six great grandchildren, Triston, Austin, Chase, Blake, Harper, and Hudson. Sister, Donita Taylor of Larned, KS.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, son, Tommy Allen Berry, daughter, Connie Dee Berry, two sisters, Reva Britton and Graydon Goldsberry.

There will no viewing as cremation has taken place.

A Graveside Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am Saturday January 9, 2021 at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery near Larned, KS.
