Joyce Ann Leonard, 78 of Hugoton, Kansas passed away on Friday January 3,2025 with her son Jan and favorite dog Missy by her side. She was born on March 28, 1946 in Hugoton, KS the youngest daughter of Kester and Ruth Gentzler.

Joyce graduated from Hugoton High School in 1964. She married Jerry Dewayne Leonard on August 19, 1964.

Their only child, a son Jan Dwayne Leonard was born on Joyce’s birthday.

Joyce loved to sing and did so in various churches in Hugoton, as well sung for many family and friends weddings. She was bound for Broadway but I came along and changed her plans.Joyce enjoyed the lake and water skiing, she loved painting, ceramics, crocheting and crafts of any kind. She enjoyed sharing her handmade crafts with family and friends.Joyce took pride in her appearance and was always dressed to a tee.

Joyce enjoyed the 18 years she spent working at the Hugoton Grade School as a teacher’s aid. She also enjoyed helping during planting and harvest by delivering meals.

Joyce loved spending time with her family and friends. Joyce had one grandchild, a grandson, Brock. He was the apple of her eye and she was extremely proud of him.

Survivors include son Jan Dwayne Leonard of Goddard, Kansas. Grandson Brock Leonard of Panama City, Florida. Sister Karolyn Crane of Hugoton, Kansas.

Joyce is preceded in death by the love of her life her husband Jerry Dwayne Leonard daughter in law Denise Leonard parents Kester and Ruth Gentzler.

Celebration of life will be held on Friday March 28, 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Methodist Church in Hugoton, Kansas. Cremation has already taken place so there will be no graveside services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the High Plains Theatre Hugoton, Kansas in her name.
