Joy E. Brackey, age 74, passed away early Friday morning, April 22, 2022, at the Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, Kansas.
She was born August 18, 1947, at Dodge City, Kansas, the daughter of William E. and Alice Louise (Shuman) Winfrey. As a young girl, she attended school in Plains, graduating from Plains High School in 1965. She later attended Dodge City Community College, receiving her nurses training.
She was a member of the Plains United Methodist Church. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, camping, fishing, and spending time with her family and friends.
In June 1972, she married Craig Brackey. After several years of marriage, they later divorced.
She is survived by a son, Matthew Brackey and wife Carlie of Dodge City, Kansas; a daughter Brandi Brackey; three brothers, Larry Winfrey and wife Mickey, Gordon Winfrey and wife Eldeana, James Winfrey and wife Karen all of Plains, Kansas; a sister, Carol Palmer of Dodge City, Kansas; and two grandchildren, Layney and Brayln.
She is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Darrell Winfrey.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at the Plains United Methodist Church. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Monday at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade. Interment will follow the service in the Plains Cemetery, Plains.
