Josephine U. Bentley Mackey

Josephine U. Bentley Mackey, age 97, of Johnson, Kansas, died Saturday, November 21, 2015, at Stanton County Long Term Care Unit in Johnson, Kansas. She was born December 22, 1917, in Byers, Kansas, the daughter of William and Viola (Wade) Blackford. Josephine married Earl E. Bentley on December 22, 1934. She worked along side her husband on their ranch in southeast Colorado and raised their family. She also enjoyed sewing, gardening, reading western and spiritual books, and spending time with her grandchildren. Josephine moved to Kansas in 2000. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Lamar, Colorado and recently attended the Bethel Church of the Nazarene south of Big Bow, Kansas.

Josephine is survived by sons, Robert Bentley of Merkel, Texas, Edwin Bentley and wife Terrie of Ft. Worth, Texas, Norman Bentley and wife Cindy of Brady, Texas, John Bentley and wife Esta of Lebanon, Tennessee, and Richard Bentley and wife Lora of Garden City, Kansas; daughter, Marcella McElroy and husband Ray of Johnson, Kansas; 14 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Josephine is preceded in death by her parents, four sibling, two sons, Elmer Bruce Bentley and Martin Earl Bentley; and four grandchildren.

Graveside service will be Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. mountain time at Fairmount Cemetery in Lamar, Colorado with Pastor Ken Armstrong officiating. Friends may call Tuesday, November 24, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. mountain time at the First Christian Church in Lamar, Colorado.
