Josephine E. Amerin, age 94, passed away Monday afternoon, November 14, 2022, at her Plains, Kansas, residence.

She was born January 14, 1928, at rural Padroni, Colorado, the daughter of John and Anna (Ertle) Gertner.  As a young girl, she attended school in Padroni, graduating from Padroni High School in 1946.

On January 24, 1950, she married Edward John Amerin at Sterling, Colorado.  After their marriage, the couple made their home at rural Plains for many years before moving to town in 1982.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and the Altar Society.  She enjoyed gardening, playing cards, serving her church in many different areas, flowers, driving the grain truck, and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by four sons, Larry Amerin and wife Leigh Ann, Ray Amerin and wife Jenny, Gerald Amerin, and Robert Amerin and wife Caralee all of Plains; four daughters, Mary Rhoads of Winter Park, Florida, JoAnn Wells and husband Larry of Fowler, Kansas, Dolores Amerin of Plains, and Margaret Rentenia and husband Jesse of Clovis, New Mexico; a daughter-in-law, Mary Amerin of Plains; two brothers, Lawrence Gertner and Clarence Gertner; three sisters, Sr. Leonette Gertner, Margaret Clapham, and Clara Marie; thirty grandchildren; and forty-eight great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband; three sons, Paul Amerin, Edward Amerin, Jr. and Leonard Amerin; five brothers, John Gertner, Jr., David Gertner, Gabriel Gertner, Marcus Gertner, and Donald Gertner; and two sisters, Anna Mary Bretz and Virginia Amerin.

Vigil services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, November 17, 2022, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Plains.  Holy Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 18, 2022, at the church.  Interment will follow in the Plains Cemetery, Plains.

The family would welcome memorials to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in care of Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.
