Johnie D. Rich

Johnie D. Rich, age 52, of Elkhart, Kansas died Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at his home in Elkhart, Kansas. He was born July 15, 1962 in Elkhart, Kansas the son of Lawrence C. Rich and Viola (Chapman) Rich.

Johnie grew up in Elkhart and graduated from Elkhart High School. After graduation Johnie served in the U.S. Air Force. He worked for Robinson Trucking; and was a Rig Manager for Trinidad Drilling. He enjoyed doing yard work, being outdoors, hunting rocks and arrowheads. He was also interested in astronomy.

Survivors include his wife, Sharla Rich of Boise City, Oklahoma; son, John Rich of Wilson, Kansas; daughters, Jessica Roddy of Hutchinson, Kansas, Jamie Oquenda of Hutchinson, Kansas, and Jocelyn Soukup of Wilson, Kansas; mother, Viola Dunsworth of Elkhart, Kansas; three brothers, Calvin Wesley Rich of Larned, Kansas, Edward Rich of Canon, Kansas, and Gary Rich of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and seven grandchildren.

Johnie is preceded in death by his father, Lawrence; and one grandchild.

Memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Elkhart, Kansas with Reverend Terrell Giddens officiating. Memorial contributions may be given to Johnie D. Rich Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home, PO Box 854, Elkhart, KS 67950.
