John Alvin Kennedy

John Alvin Kennedy, 84, of Hooker, Oklahoma passed away July 25, 2014 at Ranchwood Care Center in Yukon, Oklahoma.
John was born August 26, 1929 in Campo, Colorado, the son of John Clifford and Edna Payne McAdams Kennedy. At the age of four he moved with his family to Oklahoma on the Kennedy Homestead, northwest of Hooker, Oklahoma. He attended Block School and later Hooker Schools.
John was united in marriage to Ruby Koehn in Kismet, Kansas on July 20, 1952. He began working as a mechanic for Voiles Ford in Hooker and they then moved to Liberal, Kansas where he worked for the Ford garage. While working as a mechanic he helped his Dad farm.
In the early 1960’s they moved back to Hooker where John was a mechanic for Hodges Ford, he also worked on cars privately. In 1980 they moved to the homestead to farm full time. When he retired they moved to Guymon, Oklahoma and in 2012 moved to Yukon, Oklahoma.
He was a member of the Gospel of Grace Church in Hooker, Oklahoma where he was a past head usher and was a member of the Good Sam Motor Club.
Preceding him in death are his parents, one brother, Chester Kennedy, two sisters, Luella Kennedy and Ninetta Ransey.
Members of the family include his wife, Ruby of Yukon, Oklahoma; one son, Jerry Kennedy and Patty of Hooker, Oklahoma; two daughters, Renata Gawith and Paul of Vancouver, Washington and Janita Whipple of Yukon, Oklahoma; two sisters, Iva Franke of Liberal, Kansas and Ellen Monroe of Hooker, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, Dana Tollison and Dale, Jeremy Kennedy, Joshua Kennedy and Jennifer, Paul Christian Gawith, Timothy Gawith, Maegan Gawith, Kylee Whipple, Anna Whipple; six great grandchildren, Kayla, Kenyon, Kase, Jaden, Olivia, Jackson; one great greatgrandson, Lennox.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 31, 2014 at the Gospel of Grace Church in Hooker, Oklahoma with Odie Nunley officiating. Interment will be in the Hooker Cemetery under the direction of Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Inc. in Hooker, Oklahoma.
