106 years ago, in 1914, Joe Sam Landrum was born in Fountain Run, Kentucky. In 1927, he moved with his parents, Michael and Lela, and four siblings to Boise City, Oklahoma. After graduating from High school there and working a while in the hardware store, he attended a year at Panhandle State University and a few years later, a year at Oklahoma City University. In 1938, he took a job with the Rolla State Bank. That August Joe married Ida Stuart. They lived in Rolla until the bank moved to Elkhart, and they moved with them.
Joe worked in the First State Bank for 61 years. During that time he served on the city council, the school board, and the library board. He was a member of the Lions Club and the Flying Club. Joe was a resident of Morton County for over 90 years.
Joe passed peacefully in his home on December 16, 2020. He is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Ida.
Joe is survived by his three daughters, Annice Jo Steen, Carmen Besly, Nancy Johnson and their families.
Joe was lovingly cared for at the end of his life by Mike and Jill Landrum and their family.
