JoAnn Harris

Joe Denoyer - October 30, 2021 4:11 pm

On October 29, 2021 in Meade, Kansas, JoAnn Harris took her final breaths surrounded by her loving daughters and went home to her heavenly Father.  She was born to Paul and Maurine Thomas on December 20, 1933 in Lakin, Kansas.  She graduated from Liberal High School in 1951.  JoAnn joined her life with Lloyd Harris in a beautiful wedding celebration at the First Christian Church on November 1, 1953 in Liberal, Kansas.  They were blessed with 3 children: Paula Jean, Kimberly and Lloyd Allen.

JoAnn worked in the Register of Deeds Office in Seward County and was always working hard on their family farm.  She was also a Sunday school teacher for years and lead many young people to God.  She volunteered many hours at the Plains consignment store and community blood drives.  She was a member of the Plains Friends Church, Plains Christian Church, and North Plains Social & Study Club.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, sewing, canning, word searches, puzzles, crosswords, visiting the Kansas State Fair, and watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.  She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and caregiver.  Throughout her life, she held an unwavering faith in God.

JoAnn was proceeded in death by her husband Lloyd, infant son Lloyd Allen, parents Paul and Maurine Thomas, and sister Dolores Livesay.

She is survived by her daughters Paula Jean (husband George) Hepp and Kimberly (husband Terry) Shinogle, brother Keith (wife Harriett) Thomas, five grandchildren Heidi (husband Ryan) Hepp, Hanna Hepp, Christopher Shinogle, Carrie Shinogle, and Christy Shinogle, two great-grandchildren Julie Azzi and Cayla Peck, and many nieces and nephews.

JoAnn was the definition of a hard-working, loving woman, and she will greatly be missed by all who knew her and all the lives she touched.

Thank you to Hospice of the Prairie and Lone Tree Retirement Center for the gentle and compassionate care of our mother.

Celebration of life services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 6, 2021, at the Plains Friends Church.  Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Friday at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade.  Interment will follow in the Plains Cemetery, Plains.

The family would welcome memorials to the Plains Friends Church or the Plains Community Library in care of the funeral home.

In light of the COVID 19 pandemic, those in attendance are encouraged to use their personal guidance in regard to the wearing of masks and all are welcome. For those that are unable to attend but would like to view remotely, the services will be live streamed on the Plains Friends Church’s Facebook page.
