Joan Madrigal, age 76, of Ulysses, Kansas, died Wednesday, July 15, 2020, at her home in Ulysses. Kansas. She was born October 10, 1943, in Chacon, New Mexico, the daughter of Jose and Jessie (Duran) Romero.

Joan grew up in New Mexico and enjoyed doing farm work. She moved to Ulysses from Clayton, New Mexico. She was a wonderful cook at several local restaurants. On April 23, 1988, she married Lorenzo Madrigal in Ulysses. Joan loved spending time with her family, collected rooster figurines, and enjoyed the companionship of her dogs. She was a member of Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses.

She is survived by her husband, Lorenzo Madrigal of the home; six step-children; sisters, Mary Ida Padilla, Gloria Jaramillo, and Carmen Padilla all of Las Vegas, New Mexico, Darlene Romero of Mora, New Mexico, Nancy Romero of Ohio, Mary Jo Vigil of Chacon, New Mexico; brother, Joseph Romero of Chacon, New Mexico; two grandchildren, Julie Wagner and husband Chris, and Angel Sifuentes and wife Rocksann all from Ulysses; 16 step-grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren, and one step great-grandchild.

Joan is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Anna Sifuentes; and sister, Berna Romero.

Vigil and Rosary Service is Friday, July 17, 2020, at 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. Funeral Mass is Saturday, July 18, 2020, at 10:00 AM at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses, with Reverend Aneesh Parappanattu, MSFS officiating. Funeral Mass will also be available on Garnand Funeral Home Facebook Live. Interment will follow at Ulysses Cemetery. Friends may call Friday, July 17, 2020, from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.
