Joan Freeman, age 90, died Sunday, June 26, 2022, at Brookdale Liberal Springs in Liberal, Kansas.
She was born on April 5, 1932, in Nash, Oklahoma to Daniel and Eva (Zimmerman) Yoder. In Kiowa County, Oklahoma she married the love of her life Albert Freeman on April 7, 1951. Together she and Albert had three children.
Joan and Albert raised thoroughbred racehorses, which took them all over the country racing their horses. She was a part of the Elks Club, and the Thoroughbred Association of Kansas. Joan had a servant’s heart. She made lots of Marcia’s clothes and was known for making the best Cheeseballs. She loved her family, especially her grand, great, and her great-great grandchildren.
Joan is survived by her three children; Vance (Kaylene) Freeman of Goddard, Kansas, Greg (Jennifer) Freeman of Liberal, Kansas, and Marcia (Gary) Teel of Liberal, Kansas, her brother Ronald Yoder of Wichita, Kansas, sister Doris Selley of Rogers, Arkansas; her grandchildren; Amanda (Mike) Brumwell of Derby, Kansas, Michelle Freeman of Ft. Worth, Texas, Granddaughter in law Michelle Freeman of Virginia, Chris (Misty) Freeman of Liberal, Kansas, Kathryn (Chad) Taylor of Liberal, Kansas, Karyn (Adam) Heitschmidt of Turpin, Oklahoma, Logan Teel of Liberal, Kansas, and Matthew Teel of Liberal, Kansas; and her greatgrandchildren; Kylie (Dustin) Beardsley of Oklahoma, Paige (Nate) Tepe of Virginia, Koryn Freeman of Virginia, Nick Freeman of Liberal, Kansas, Abbie Freeman of Liberal, Kansas, Myles Taylor of Liberal, Kansas, Mason Taylor of Liberal, Kansas, Addison Heitschmidt of Turpin, Oklahoma, Lilly Heitschmidt of Turpin, Oklahoma, and her great-great grandchild Chad Beardsley; as well as many friends, relatives and her Brookdale family.
She is preceded in death by; her husband Albert, her parents, her sisters Alma York, Odena Miller, Evelyn Holmes, and Donita Parsons, her brothers Phil Yoder and Bobby Yoder, and her grandson Chad Freeman.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday July 9, 2022 at 2:00 PM at the Hornung Family Funeral Home, 1212 W. 2nd Street, Liberal, Kansas.
A Private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
