Joan Fischer

Joan Fischer, age 93, of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, and formerly of Ulysses, Kansas, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, April 14, 2019, at St. Johns Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was born October 14, 1925, in Falls City, Nebraska, the daughter of Carl and Janet (Mooney) Huber.

Joan grew up in Fall City, Nebraska. She moved to Los Angeles, California where she met and married Milton “Mike” Fischer on April 1, 1947. Joan was a hard worker and worked alongside her husband on their farm in Ulysses. She was a very devoted mother and grandmother. Joan’s family was the most important thing to her and she enjoyed sewing and baking for them. She also enjoyed spending time reading. Joan was a devout Christian and a member of Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses.

Joan is survived by her son, Steve Fischer and wife Carole of Park Hill, Oklahoma; daughter, Karen Young and husband Donnie of Park Hill, Oklahoma; brothers, John Huber of Fall City, Nebraska, Ralph Huber and wife Hilda of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Ed Huber of Atchison, Kansas; five grandsons, Ryan Stevens, Shelby Stevens, Brock Lubbers, Jared Lubbers, and Bryce Lubbers; and one great-granddaughter, Devon Stevens.

Joan is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mike in 2006; and daughter, Darlene Lucero in 2013.

Rosary service will be Monday, April 22, 2019, at 10:00 AM and funeral mass will be at 10:30 AM at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Ulysses, Kansas, with Reverend James Dieker officiating. Interment will follow at Ulysses Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday, April 21, 2019, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880. Condolences may be posted at www.garnandfuneralhomes.com.
