Jimmy “Jim” L. Hinnergardt

Jimmy “Jim” L. Hinnergardt, age 83, of Johnson, Kansas, died Monday, October 28, 2024, at Memorial Living Center in Johnson. He was born on April 23, 1941, in Ness City, Kansas, the son of Victor A. and Elsie M. (Mickeal) Hinnergardt.

Jim grew up near Bazine and graduated from Bazine High School. He was in the debate and drama clubs and played sports. Jim worked at the Dodge City Stockyards and delivered milk for Stephen’s. After moving to Liberal in 1970, he drove for Graves Freight Line for 27 years, retired in 1992 from Beaver Express after 14 years of service, and also drove for Yellow Freight on weekends. Jim loved watching ball games on tv, playing the lottery, fishing, and family time. He has lived in Johnson the last three years and enjoyed the companionship of his cat “Snooters”, family and friends at the Memorial Living Center.

Jim is survived by his children, Sheryl Fiss and husband, Greg, of Johnson, Jay Hinnergardt and wife, Lynda, and Lance Hinnergardt and wife, Brooke, all of Liberal; brothers, Kenny Hinnergardt and wife, Judy, of Dodge City, and Freddie Hinnergardt and wife Debra Jo of Montezuma; grandchildren, Josh Towner and wife, Lori, Ashley Geist and husband, Nate, Caitlin Hinnergardt and fiancé, Pedro Marquez, Michelle Hinnergardt and partner, Zen, Adam Hinnergardt, Chad Nickell and wife, Angy, Chase Nickell and wife, Lettie, and Kami Hinnergardt and partner, Beth Royal; and great-grandchildren, Kevin Towner and wife, Chelsea, Caleb and Brian Towner, Amy Sanchez-Garcia, Lia Nickell, Jax Nickell, Ryker Nickell and Kaiser Nickell.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Elsie Hinnergardt; grandson, Jamey Towner; and nephew, Kirk Hinnergardt.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 2:00 PM at the United Methodist Church in Bazine with Reverend John Grimm officiating. Inurnment will be at the Bazine Cemetery.
