Jim Kent Miller

Joe Denoyer - July 2, 2020 7:43 pm

Jim Kent Miller always said he had lived the “American Dream.” He was born in Lawrence, Kansas, December 8, 1937 to Madeline and Lloyd Jim Miller. They moved to southwest Kansas where his parents were both teachers. He grew up with a love for agriculture and a strong work ethic. His love of livestock was instilled in him by his uncle, Howard Miller at an early age. Jim bought his first set of cattle July 1, 1957 and has owned cattle every day since. He struggled to start his first feedyard, but never took no for an answer. Jim taught his children anything is possible if you put enough effort into it and want it bad enough. Never give up! He always said his best day was when he couldn’t quite get everything done!

He loved to rope, play the fiddle, dance, shoot dice and beat you at anything, but above all, work and grow his feedyard and ranching businesses. As anybody who did business with him knew, Jim’s handshake was his word.

He is survived by his wife, Connie, of Scottsdale, Arizona; sons and daughters-in-law Lloyd ‘Red’ and Kim Miller of Des Moines, New Mexico, and Lee and Denise Miller of Satanta, Kansas; daughters and sons-in-law Marilyn and Todd Domer of Topeka, Kansas, and Susan and J D Stephney of Phoenix, Arizona. He also was blessed with a close relationship with a step-daughter and her husband, Billie and John Casillas of Mesa, Arizona; ten wonderful grandchildren and four wild, wooly and beautiful great grandchildren; along with two well-loved ranch managers-Dean Sande of New Mexico and Rod Young of Kansas.

Jim left this earth on June 22, 2020, leaving behind loved ones and a host of great friends with wonderful memories and some pretty wild tales to tell!

As Jim would say, “It’s been a helluva ride!”
