Jean Unruh Towle

Jean Unruh Towle, 98, of Kismet, passed away on Friday May 31, 2019 at the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice at St. Francis in Wichita, KS.

She was born on December 3, 1920 to Daniel and Ida (Deckert) Jantzen at Liberal, KS.

Jean was a graduate of Kismet High School; class of 1939. On April 20, 1940 she married Ervin Unruh near Kismet, KS.
Jean and Ervin farmed northwest of Kismet. In 1968 they moved to Roswell, NM due to Ervin’s health. While in Roswell she worked as a Nursing Aid. They later moved to Ulysses, KS where she worked in the kitchen at the Ulysses Nursing Home. In the early 1980’s they moved back to Kismet. Ervin preceded her in death in 1988. In July of 1989 she married Herb Towle and she relocated with him to Follett, TX; Herb also preceded her in death in 1991. After Herb passed she moved to live with her daughter Marla in Amarillo, TX. In 2005 Jean moved back to Kismet in 2005. Jean enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, working on the bazaar, baking bread and pies, canning pickles and jelly. She was a member of Kismet United Methodist Women and the Kismet United Methodists Church.

Jean is survived by her Three Daughters- Marla McGrew and husband Mickey of Forney, TX, Norma Handy and husband JL of Kismet, KS, Karen Dumler and husband Steve of Mission, TX; Brother- Merlin Jantzen and wife Barbara of Liberal, KS; Sister in Law- Rochelle Jantzen of Bucklin, KS; 11 Grandchildren, 23 Great Grandchildren, Five Great-Great Grandchildren; Several Nieces and Nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters.

There will be no public viewing,

Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, June 5th at the Kismet United Methodist Church, with Pastor Terry Mayhew, officiating.

Burial will take place in the Kismet Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Kismet United Methodist Church in care of Miller Mortuary PO Box 826 Liberal, KS 67905-0826
