Jean L. Swanson, age 96, died Saturday, December 2, 2017, at Pioneer Manor, Hugoton, Kansas. Jean was born January 13, 1921 in Mattfield Green, Kansas, the daughter of Roy Lee and Victoria (Mercer) Bastin.
Jean grew up in Mattfield Green, Kansas, and was the valedictorian of her Mattfield Green graduating class. Throughout her life, Jean lived in Pampa, Texas, before settling in Tallant, Oklahoma, and moved to Pawhuska, Oklahoma, upon Boyd’s retirement. For the past year and a half, Jean lived in Hugoton, Kansas. Jean was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and Ruth’s Circle in Barnsdall, Oklahoma, and the Osage County EHU. She was a loving Mom and the best cook in the world, per her grandkids.
Jean married Boyd R. Swanson on December 26, 1937 in Augusta, Kansas. He preceded her in death on October 1, 2004.
She is survived by two daughters; Linda Jean DeWeese, Tucson, Arizona and Janice Elaine Kincaid, Ulysses, Kansas, four grandchildren; Dr. Thane DeWeese, Dana DeWeese Kaczmarski, Christopher Boyd Kincaid and Heather Lynn Kincaid Troutman, ten great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings; Doris Cox, Victor Bastin, Hope Foose and Bob Bastin.
Graveside service will be Thursday, December 7, 2017, at 2:00 PM at Ethel Reece Cemetery, Barnsdall, Oklahoma, with Pastor Martin Witt officiating. Memorial contributions may be given to the First Baptist Church, Barnsdall, Oklahoma, in care of Garnand Funeral Home, 405 W. Grant Ave, Ulysses, KS 67880.
