Janice Kay Alvarado

Janice Kay Alvarado, age 61, of Rolla, Kansas died July 8, 2014 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. She was born September 5, 1952 in Elkhart, Kansas the daughter of Lyndell and Margie Louise (Henderson) Vail.

Janice was a lifetime Morton County resident. She grew up in Richfield and graduated from Rolla High School in 1970. She went to cosmetology school in Hays. She owned a beauty shop in Elkhart. Janice loved to play piano, tend to her plants, reading and writing poetry, and spending time with her family, grandkids and great-grandkids.

Survivors include sons, Quintin Marc Parish and Ali Essman of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Chris Parish, and Tony Parish; daughters, Shauna Rodriguez and Nick Ramirez of Elkhart, Kansas, Jessica Dawn Gonzalez and Eric Torres of Rolla, Kansas; brothers, Darrell Vail of Johnson, Kansas, and Howard Vail of Las Vegas, Nevada; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Janice is preceded in death by her parents; and son William “Bart” Barton Parish; granddaughter, Emily Parish; and son-in-law, Joel Rodriguez.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at the United Methodist Church in Richfield, Kansas with Reverend Herman Lambrecht officiating. Interment will follow at the Richfield Cemetery. Friends may call from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday, July 14, 2014 at Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart, Kansas. The family requests memorials may be given to Rolla High School in care of Garnand Funeral Home, PO Box 854, Elkhart, KS 67950.
