Janet Simpson: UPDATE

Janet Elaine Simpson, 71, of Hooker, Oklahoma passed away September 16, 2011 at Odyssey Health Care in Amarillo, Texas due to complications of a stroke.

Janet was born March 23, 1940 in Clayton, NM at St. Joseph Hospital, the daughter of Clifford and Anna Tower Holder. She attended school in Clayton, graduating from Clayton High School with the Class of 1958.

On May 23, 1958 in Kenton, Oklahoma, Janet was united in marriage to Harold Leonard Simpson.

She worked as an operator in Kenton and help Harold build the highway between Kenton and Clayton. They lived in Amistad, NM, Hooker, Oklahoma and Guymon, Oklahoma.

Janet was an avid seamstress, quilter, knitting, needle point and was a gardener. She enjoyed fishing with Harold, her kids and grandkids. She volunteered for the Hooker Chamber of Commerce and the Clayton Museum, enjoyed dancing to country music, was a CMT fan and enjoyed feeding and watering of song birds in her yard.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Hooker, Oklahoma, was an avid Bible reader and finally flew on an airplane to her grandkids weddings. Janet always remembered the birthdays of everyone and never forgot them at Christmas.

Survivors include her sons, Joe Simpson and wife Teresa of Hooker, Oklahoma, Doug Simpson and wife, Stephanie of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Cliff Simpson of Seattle, Washington; daughter, Lynette Maytum and husband, Randy of Hugoton, Kansas; nine grandchildren and eleven great grand children; sister, Clara Beth Gas and husband, Don of Choctaw, Oklahoma; brother, Terry Holder and wife, Susan of Starkville, Mississippi; numerous nephew, nieces, cousins and in-laws along with Doozy the Poodle.

Proceeded in death by her parents and her husband Harold.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at the First Christian Church in Hooker, Oklahoma with Rev. Roy Berkley and Rev. Charles Mendenhall officiating. Inurnment will follow at a later date directed by Roberts Brothers Funeral Home, Inc. in Hooker, Oklahoma.
