James Thomas Greer

James Thomas Greer, passed away on Monday, April 7, 2025, at Via Christi-St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas, leaving behind a legacy of commitment, friendship, and passion.
Jim was born on April 22, 1961, in Tribune, Kansas to John (Jack) and Mary Margaret (Kleymann) Greer.
Jim’s professional journey began after he graduated from Wichita County High School in 1979. Following his education, he proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1979 until his medical discharge in 1981. This chapter of his life reflected his dedication and willingness to serve his country. After his time in the military, Jim commenced a distinguished career, initially working for Weber Refrigeration and Heating for 25 years in Garden City. His journey continued when he moved to Olathe, Kansas, to further his career with Experitec, Inc. In 2018, he decided to relocate to Cheney, Kansas, where he co-founded Petra Automation alongside his trusted friend, Pete.
Jim was known not only for his professional achievements but also for his engaging personality and hobbies that brought him joy. He was a past member of the Sand and Sage Rifle and Pistol Club in Garden City, where his passion for gunsmithing flourished. He also enjoyed scuba diving adventures with his long-time friends, Pete and Tammy Wright, traveling to destinations including Mexico and embracing the thrill of shooting competitions along the way.
Jim is survived by three brothers: Greg Greer and his wife Patty of Austin, Texas; Montie Greer and his wife Betty of Deerfield, Kansas; and Robert Geer and his wife Lori of Liberal, Kansas. He is also remembered by his sister, Christine Murphy, and her husband Jerald of Garden City, Kansas, as well as three sister-in-laws, Theresa Greer of Olathe, Kansas, Pat Greer of Liberal, Kansas, and Vicki Greer of Kansas City, Missouri. He is lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and two special friends, Pete and Tammy Wright of Cheney, Kansas.
Jim’s life was marked by the love and affection he shared with his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Mary Powers, and two brothers, Shane and John Greer.
Book Signing will be held on Monday, April 14, 2025, from 10 AM to 5 PM at Robson Funeral Home, Garden City.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, from 10 AM to 8 PM. Family will receive family and friends from 6 PM to 8 PM at Robson Funeral Home, Garden City.
Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Deerfield Cemetery, Deerfield, Kansas. Funeral honors will be held by the Southwest Kansas Veterans Funeral Honor Guard.
