James R. (Jim) Garrison

James R. (Jim) Garrison, age 80, of Johnson, Kansas died Friday, October 17, 2014 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. He was born February 24, 1934 in Eldora, Iowa, the son of Bob and Eulah (Ellison) Garrison.

Jim moved to Kansas at the age of 6. He graduated from Johnson High School in 1953. On May 31, 1953, Jim married Charlene Windmill in Johnson. Jim attended junior college and then served four years in the United States Air Force. After an honorable discharge, they lived in Augusta and then moved back to Stanton County in 1962. Jim served as Stanton County Sheriff from 1967-2000. He enjoyed woodworking, and spending time with and supporting his grandchildren in all their endeavors. Jim was a member of the Masonic Lodge #441, VFW Post #3864, Stanton County Trojan Booster Club, and the Kansas Sheriff Association.

Survivors include four sons, Gill Garrison and wife Desiree of Pensacola, Florida, Rusty Garrison and wife Mitzi of Otis, Colorado, Greg Garrison and wife Denise of Johnson, Kansas, Marty Garrison of Johnson, Kansas; seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
 
Jim is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Char in November 2013; and brother, Robert Garrison.

Graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 24, 2014 at the Stanton County Cemetery in Johnson, Kansas. Friends may call Thursday, October 23, 2014 from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Johnson. Memorial contributions may be given to the Stanton County EMS or the Masonic Lodge #441 in care of Garnand Funeral Home, PO Box 715, Johnson, Kansas 67855.
