James Lee “Jim” Johnson, 79, of Liberal, passed away on Friday October 27, 2023 at Baptist St. Anthony Hospital in Amarillo, TX. .

He was born on May 24, 1944 to Lloyd and Catherine (Rukvina) Johnson in Bishop, VA.

Jim moved to Kansas in 1953 with his family. He attended Liberal High School and the Liberal Vo-Tech School.
Jim enlisted into the US Navy in 1965; while serving in the US Navy he was able to travel the world. He returned home in 1967. Jim loved rebuilding old cars; he worked many years managing the Body Shop at Stu Emmert Chevrolet and then later operated his own Body Shop. Jim was an avid music fan with an extensive record collection and collected many antiques. While he had a bit of an ornery streak he would always help anyone in need.

Jim is survived by his partner of 17 years Dianna Rogers of Liberal, KS, Son, Mark Johnson of Emporia, KS, Daughter, Candy Swier of Liberal, KS, Three Sisters, Kathryn Burdge of Liberal, KS, Debbie Harvey of Salina, KS, Ginny Gilmore of Yukon, OK, several Nieces & Nephews.

He was preceded in death by his Parents, Two Brothers, Kenny Johnson, and Lloyd Johnson, Jr., One Sister, Lucille Neece, .

Visitation will be 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm Thursday November 2, 2023 at Miller Mortuary with the family present from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm to greet friends.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 am Friday November 3, 2023, at the Miller Mortuary Chapel, with Pastor Rex Petty, officiating. Cremation will follow the service..

In lieu of flowers the family request Memorials to the Liberal Animal Shelter in Care of Miller Mortuary PO Box 826 Liberal, KS 67905-0826.
