James A. (Jim) Hush

James A. (Jim) Hush, age 86, passed away Wednesday morning, June 22, 2022, at the Regent Park Rehabiltation and Healthcare, Wichita, Kansas.

He was born January 20, 1936, at Wichita, Kansas, the son of Leonard and Blanche Lucille (Armentrout) Hush. At the age of six months, he moved with his mother and twin sisters to Plains. He attended the Plains school system, graduating from Plains High School in 1954 and was a part of the undefeated football team. In 1955, he joined the United States Army, serving in Germany until 1957. Upon his discharge, he returned to Plains and began his career as a farmer and as an auctioneer. In 1959, he started the Liberal Auction Company conducting farm and household sales.

On September 1, 1961, he married LaVeta Gilbert at Liberal. In 1964, the couple moved to the family farm south of Plains. In 1985 they purchased the Hamm Agency selling insurance and real estate. In 1995 they sold the insurance business and he continued to operate the real estate and auction business.

He was baptized and was a member of the Plains Christian Church and later the United Methodist Church, a member of the Masonic Lodge, served on the CO-OP board, was an active participant of the Meade County 4-H programs, having been the auctioneer for the Meade County Fair Livestock Sale for over fifty years. He enjoyed playing tennis, games of chance, and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, LaVeta of Plains; a daughter, Susan Germann of Wichita, Kansas; a son, Brandon Hush of Plains; and four grandchildren, Marissa McGee, Jared Germann, Kaden Hush, and Madison Hush.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and twin sisters, Delaine Paulsen and Delores Johnson.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 25, 2022, at the Plains United Methodist Church. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade. Interment will follow in the Plains Cemetery.

The family would welcome memorials to the Meade County 4-H in care of the funeral home.
