James A. Hollis, age 81, passed away early Thursday morning, December 14, 2023, at his Meade, Kansas, residence.
He was born July 27, 1942, at Scott City, Kansas, the son of Grover Cleveland and Gladys E. (Zink) Hollis. As a young boy he attended school in Healy, Kansas, graduating from Healy High School in 1961. After his graduation he began working for D.J. Snyder. In 1970, he moved to Meade and began a career in farming, working for Jack Berghaus, Wally McCune, Bill Cottrell, and E. Dirks.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. He enjoyed collecting pencils, pens and knives, traveling to Cedar Bluff and Meade State Lake, and spending time with his family and friends.
On June 12, 1965, he married Eileen Harmison at Dighton, Kansas. She survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Bill Hollis of Meade, Bert Hollis of Dodge City, Kansas, and Darrell Hollis of Eads, Colorado; a sister Sharon Sutton of Garden City, Kansas; ten grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by a son Harold Hollis on September 27, 1983; his parents; a brother, Norman Lee Hollis; and a sister, Lillian M. Hollis.
Vigil services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, December 17, 2023, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Meade. Holy Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 18, 2023 at the church. Friends may call from 12:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Fidler-Orme-Bachman Mortuary, Meade. Interment will follow in the Graceland Cemetery, Meade.
The family would welcome memorials to the Beam Senior Center in care of the funeral home.
