Jack W. Thompson

Jack W. Thompson, age 62, died Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at the Morton County Hospital in Elkhart, Kansas. He was born March 3, 1950 in Elkhart, Kansas the son of Russell Warren and Vera Helene (Walker) Thompson.

Jack, a lifetime resident of Elkhart, graduated from Elkhart High School in 1968, attended Pittsburg State University and then served in the United States Army. After an honorable discharge, Jack came back home and farmed with his Dad. He also rebuilt combine engines for Allis Chalmers, opened Tri State Auto and was shop foreman for Morton County Road Department. Jack married Linda S. Tregellas in April 1970 in Elkhart. He enjoyed motorcycles and rode with the Patriot Guard. He also enjoyed hunting prairie dogs.

He is survived by his wife, Linda of the home; son, David A. Thompson and wife Connie of Topeka, Kansas; daughter, Julie Hey and husband Brad of Wichita, Kansas; sister, Linda Kay Lundy and husband Jack of Burlington, Kentucky; sister-in-law, Leu Thompson of Lake Charles, Louisiana; and three grandchildren, Alexa, Nova Rain and Stone.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Larry Ray Thompson in 1992.

Memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, January 28, 2013 at the Morton County Civic Center in Elkhart, Kansas. Inurnment will follow at the Elkhart Cemetery in Elkhart, Kansas with graveside military rites conducted by Elkhart VFW Post #3162. Memorials may be given to the Salvation Army or The Humane Society in care of Garnand Funeral Home, P.O. Box 854, Elkhart, KS 67950.
